The Redskins returned to work today, after nearly a week off because of league-imposed sanctions based on their OTA work. But some in the organization say the time off wasn't a bad thing because of how hard the players have worked. As for this weekend, the practices won't be much different from what they did in the OTAs. They'll continue adding parts of the playbook on both sides of the ball and focus on situations -- goal-line, short yardage, etc.
''When the players come back [in July] it'll be hectic so we have to be in great shape,'' Gibbs said.
Gibbs also likes having the minicamp later in the spring rather than right after the draft. This way, the rookies and other young players should be more familiar with the plays and should get in better work.
The minicamp is Friday through Sunday, with one practice a day from noon until approximately 1:45 p.m.
. . . Linebacker Micheal Barrow was scheduled to work out at Redskins Park today, with the hopes of finally being cleared. But a death in the family prevented him from attending. Barrow has told Gibbs that he feels good -- and he's told friends the same thing. He wasn't telling anyone that last summer, when his knee was giving him major problems.
. . . Among those who won't participate this weekend: linebacker LaVar Arrington and defensive tackle Brandon Noble. H-back Chris Cooley did not work out today because of a pulled hamstring, but his status for this weekend is uncertain.
. . . One player who's had good work in the OTA's: Patrick Ramsey. So says Gibbs, who termed Ramsey relaxed. That's quite a change from this time a year ago, when Ramsey was learning a new system -- one completely unlike what he'd played in the previous two years.
''He looks confident,'' Gibbs said. ''He's had a good command of things.''
. . . Gibbs, and others, keep praising receiver Taylor Jacobs for his work. So we need to keep an eye on him.
. . . Nothing new on: Rod Gardner or Sean Taylor.
