Washington signed the veteran corner, who spent last season with Carolina. The Panthers waived Hawkins earlier this offseason, after signing him to a three-year deal the previous offseason.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Hawkins has started 76 games during his seven-year career and certainly provides depth in the secondary.
But if he makes the final roster, the former second-round pick of the Bengals will make more of an impact on special teams. In Cincinnati, Hawkins was probably known more for his special teams play than his play at corner.
In seven seasons, Hawkins has intercepted 10 passes and recorded three sacks.
