<P>Hempstead, NY- New York Jets General Manager Terry Bradway announced today the Jets have traded guard David Loverne and an undisclosed draft choice to the Washington Redskins.

In return, the Jets have obtained an undisclosed draft choice from the Washington Redskins in the upcoming 2002 Draft (April 20th and 21st).

Loverne, a 6-3, 299-pound product of San Jose State, completed his third NFL season in 2001. He has played in 32 regular season games, seeing the majority of his action on special teams units and occasionally in short-yardage alignments. He also saw action in the Jets' AFC Wildcard game at Oakland on January 12, 2002.

He was unable to crack the starting lineup in any of the professional contests he dressed for while with the Jets. Loverne was selected in the third round of the 1999 draft by the Jets with the 90th pick overall. He was inactive for all 16 games as a rookie, and appeared in 32 straight regular season games while with the Jets, dating back to the 2000 season opener.
