Running back Clinton Portis didn't show up wearing an outrageous outfit or calling himself something different. Instead, he simply pronounced himself as fit. And that will provide the lift his daffy costumes gave the Redskins last year.
Portis practiced in pads for the second straight day and responded well to taking some hits on Wednesday. He practiced without a shoulder harness, though he will play with one.
''I don't expect [the shoulder] to hamper me,'' Portis said.
The news wasn't so good with corner Shawn Springs. Assistant head coach/defense Gregg Williams said Springs would not play Sunday and that he hopes he can return against Jacksonville the following week.
Trainer Bubba Tyer said an MRI showed no major tear in Springs' groin, stemming from a new injury Wednesday.
And defensive tackle Joe Salave'a is still listed as questionable. Williams said he thought Salave'a would be doubtful, but Tyer remained optimistic that Salave'a could play.
