WHAT THEY SAID
Steve Spurrier: ''We were fortunate to come out with that one. They outplayed us, outhustled us. We had a lot of breakdowns and errors. The offense is way off; it's way off right now. We didn't block our assignments as well as I'd hoped. But winning beats losing and coming from behind was good.''
Spurrier on who which QB will start versus Pittsburgh: ''It ain't going to be Patrick. You have to earn it around here.''
Spurrier on the QB's: ''Shane played well. He got us 20 points in the first half so that's not bad. Danny played pretty well and Sage was OK.''
End Carl Powell: ''I just wanted to catch it and secure it. When I saw no one in front of me, I didn't look back.''
QB Shane Matthews: ''I played well at times and made mistakes. We had to settle for to many field goals. I should have hit Jacquez on that first drive, but I threw it out of the end zone. We had chances to score more points.''
Matthews: ''Our job as quarterback is to get us to a good play. There were times when I should have changed the play.''
OT Chris Samuels: ''I rolled my ankle on the fifth play and then again late in the second half. I thought it was broken at first. But it's just a sprain so I'm happy. I should be all right.''
OG Ross Tucker on how he played: ''You never know until you watch the film, but I'd say I had a decent game. But there's room for improvement. . . . Everyone knew we wanted to run the ball better than last week. I thought we ran the ball better.''
QB Danny Wuerffel: ''I felt pretty good. You can't score every time you get the ball. But you try to do the right play, put enough things together and everyone's happy. I feel real comfortable right now. It's a real good system and a lot of it is that I understand Coach Spurrier and what he's trying to accomplish. I'm in a great situation.''
Wuerffel on the QB derby: ''It's great for three people to have the opportunity to be the starter. I'm thankful to be in this situation; it's better than any of us have ever been in. I'm thankful I'm not the guy who has to make that decision. We'll see how it plays out.''
