Jim Zorn all but ruled him out yesterday. And Jason Taylor said nothing today that made anyone think Zorn was incorrect. Taylor's left calf still hasn't fully healed, making his return this weekend at Philadelphia unlikely.
Taylor missed practice to be examined by Dr. Chris Annunziata, who performed the surgery. He told Taylor his calf is ahead of schedule, but it's still uncertain what that schedule really is.
"There are guys who come back in a week or two and have played and some guys have taken the season," Taylor said. "Everyone has different degrees to what the problem was to begin with and mine is somewhere in-between."
Taylor will be cautious with this injury, saying he doesn't want it to rush back and have it
...Meanwhile, corner Shawn Springs did not practice today and there's some pessimism about his status for Sunday, according to Zorn. Springs said Tuesday that he thought he would be able to play. But he has yet to practice.
...Linebacker Marcus Washington (hamstring) did not practice, but the Redskins are more optimistic about his return than Springs'. Right tackle Stephon Heyer did not practice. It's hard to imagine him playing Sunday.
...Jon Jansen spent part of the open locker-room session to day ordering a new suit from a tailor, who set up shop in the locker room.
...Chris Horton was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Month, the first time a Redskin has received this honor since Fred Smoot in 2001. It's funny with Horton; he's making plays without always doing the right thing. On his interception Sunday, the coaches had to yell to him to get to the right area. That's why he made a bee-line to the flat. He was late.
...If you can, check out Comcast's pre-game show Sunday. Kelli Johnson had a fun interview with Fred Smoot and Carlos Rogers. The best part? When they pick on Shawn Springs, doing impressions of him.
...You learn something new about Zorn almost every day. Like today, when he talked about learning to juggle because one of his first college coaches told him all his quarterbacks had to. He also taught Zorn a trick in which he had to take three quarters and move them around with one finger while balancing them with a couple fingers. Improves dexterity. Might also win you a couple free beers in the bar.
...Brian Westbrook was limited in practice today for the Eagles. Despite what his brother Byron says, the Redskins expect him to play. So, too, do Philly beat reporters. Most likely it'll be a game-time decision.
