Corner Shawn Springs (calf) is listed as doubtful for the Browns game. His backup, Fred Smoot, is listed as questionable because of a groin injury. And safety Chris Horton is questionable with an ankle injury. Horton practiced Friday, but not the previous two days.
Coach Jim Zorn said Springs will be a game-time decision.
‘'He says he wants to play,'' Zorn said, ‘'but I don't know if he'll be fit to play. It's probably not good. But you know me; I'm an optimist. I'm hoping.''
Springs' loss would be a hard one because of his versatility. If Horton is limited, the Redskins can use Springs as a safety. Rookie Kareem Moore is another option as is newly-signed Mike Green. But neither is the most welcoming option against a passing attack starting to click.
Running back Clinton Portis (hip) did not practice and also could be a game-time decision. However, he's listed as questionable and the Redskins are cautiously optimistic that he can play. Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow (illness) is questionable.
