...Clinton Portis probably won't play after not showing any improvement today. But that shouldn't be a surprise. Portis was questionable at the beginning of the week and he has a grade II sprain. Those don't heal that quickly.
...Ladell Betts did look good today, so the Redskins expect him to be ready to start should Portis miss.
...It rained heavily during the first part of practice, a cold hard rain that made life miserable for a spell. When one player walked in – wasn't sure who it was – he said, "I want some Campbell's Soup."
...The Redskins had their Z shades up, this time serving as umbrellas. They also trapped a lot of rain on the top and center Casey Rabach made sure to try and tip the water out by pushing up the covering. After he was done doing that, he started shooting water from the cooler on top.
...One player the defensive coaches are getting excited about is safety LaRon Landry. His hamstring is feeling much better, so they're now expecting him to make more plays.
...Corner DeAngelo Hall stopped during an interview to watch the Carlos Rogers/Fred Smoot show and laughingly, and with a smile, referred to them as "fools" because they were being interviewed with their shirts off. Hall makes sure to have his on – like Michael Jordan, he said. When told that Smoot might be wanting to show off his body now that he lifts weights, Hall said, "He should lift more."
...Linebacker Marcus Washington (shoulder) is unlikely to play. Makes you wonder if his last seven games will be more of the same. This is where the Redskins benefit from having so much secondary depth. They can use an extra d-back and be creative with the corners in lieu of another linebacker. And we'll see if H.B. Blades can be more than a special teamer and a backup. I have my doubts about him; you simply don't want to start two short linebackers. But I like Blades' instincts.
...Receiver Devin Thomas did not practice today because he ate something that caused him to, um, vomit a bit.
... Receiver Malcolm Kelly continues to look fine, but he likely will be inactive Sunday. The Redskins could really use him down the stretch, if he can learn the offense enough.
