…The injured guys are coming along fine. Eight players did not practice – Andre Carter, London Fletcher, Kedric Golston, Clinton Portis, Chris Samuels, Shawn Springs, Marcus Washington and Fred Smoot.
Smoot missed practice with an excused absence. Of the others, only Washington is already ruled out. The Redskins are optimistic about the others.
…They think Springs will play, though the phrase "if he's 100 percent" is always used with him. That's not used with anyone else. And there's little doubt that Springs is not viewed all that favorably in the locker room in certain quarters.
…Look for an increased role for DeAngelo Hall in the final four games.
"We've become very comfortable with him and he's a premier shutdown corner," defensive coordinator Greg Blache said. "You'll see more and more of him as we go through the next few weeks. We'll start to feature him and give him an opportunity to lead us back there."
…The Ravens are hurting, too. They had five players who did not practice today: OT Jared Gaither, WR Derrick Mason, RB Willis McGahee, S Ed Reed and CB Samari Rolle.
…Redskins coach Jim Zorn continues to be a bit bothered by his behavior on the sidelines during Sunday's loss to the Giants. He did not bring it up today, but was asked about it and the conversation lasted more than five minutes about it. He does not want to make it a big deal, but he knows it's something that can't happen.
Also, he wasn't happy that he used a curse word on the sidelines, which his 13-year-old son Isaac heard. Zorn now owes him a dollar for using the bad word as an agreement between the two. Zorn did say that offensive coordinator Sherman Smith took his headsets off at one point because Zorn was screaming so loud. Smith said he could still hear him with his headphones off.
But give Zorn credit. Not a lot of coaches try to improve themselves as much as Zorn does. He listens to his assistants – a few told him he was acting different Sunday.
