Why they should draft him: The Redskins have two older versions of Jackson at left end in Renaldo Wynn and Phillip Daniels. But there's a reason: they like anchor-type ends on the left side. Greg Blache always has had that in his defense and it's why he struggled with Jason Taylor. If Blache has any say it's hard to imagine he wouldn't want another anchor player. Jackson fits that description. At 298 pounds he has good size and could easily slide inside on third downs. That's likely where he'd provide the best rush. If the Redskins picked Jackson, half of their line would be set for several years – at least that's the hope. He would give them another young linemen to build around, with reserves Kedric Golston and Anthony Montgomery inside. Teams win with good young linemen. And Jackson could play immediately.
Why they shouldn't: Because at 13 the Redskins need to find someone who can get the quarterback. That's not Jackson's forte. Really, we have a little bit of a hard time with this analysis because we strongly believe in getting good players at this spot. And we thought the Redskins erred a bit last year by not getting a young DE. Our belief has not changed. However, I'm not sure Jackson fits with this group because there are questions about the consistency of his intensity. He also needs to get stronger, though with this group he'l l have no choice but to become serious. Jackson is not a playmaker and that's what they need on defense. Albert Haynesworth is not enough of one; he'll need some help.
