...Clinton Portis, London Fletcher, Mike Sellers, LaRon Landry, Santana Moss and James Thrash did not attend the first day of organized team activities. They aren't mandatory, so they don't have to attend. But coach Jim Zorn seemed a little miffed that some weren't there.
Moss and Thrash are injured and would not be working out anyway.
We'd like to ask Phillip Daniels the next time we have a chance what he thinks of these guys missing. Remember, he was very vocal in his displeasure of Shawn Springs skipping these workouts.
...The defensive backs worked a lot on their hands today, running around blocking bags and catching passes from the quarterbacks. Or trying to. Justin Tryon dropped at least four passes on this wet day. The players have to do pushups if they drop a ball. Tryon should be a lot stronger today.
...Tryon did do a nice job on a deep ball today to Antwaan Randle El, sticking his hand in at the last second to break up a pass.
...Mike Williams works out for at least 10-15 minutes alone on the field after the workouts, trying to lose weight. Don't know if he's going to make it or not, but he's a very likeable guy. A good talker, that's for sure. But he seems sincere.
...Chris Horton did an excellent job covering Chris Cooley on several routes today. Only once did Cooley get any separation. But it's May. Nobody knows that more than Cooley.
...The Redskins signed receivers Trent Shelton and Roydell Williams Monday and cut tight end Devin Frischknecht, receiver John Halman, defensive tackle Brigham Harwell, linebacker Ronnie Palmer and offensive lineman Isaiah Ross.
