...Always fun to hear DL coach John Palermo get on a player. Or at least remind him to do something a certain way. He's a bit colorful. Here's what he told Antonio Dixon as they chopped their feet over dummy bags: ‘'Your ass is too high! You didn't explode!''
...Either the defensive line was ahead of the o-line, or the Redskins are in trouble with their backup offensive linemen. Mike Williams has a looong way to go, starting with his footwork. He's a terrific story, but he really struggled in pass protection today. Renaldo Wynn and Rob Jackson both went around him with ease. Meanwhile, Jeremy Bridges is proving one thing: he's not a left tackle. Wynn, Jackson and Chris Wilson got past him with ease. Williams stayed for more work following the afternoon practice and chatted with coach Joe Bugel.
...DeAngelo Hall just makes plays. He intercepted a Jason Campbell pass this morning, coming out of nowhere to pick off the ball.
...Greg Blache really likes what he's seen of Chris Wilson. Not sure if his enthusiasm is warranted, or if that's a way of letting Brian Orakpo know who he's falling behind. Wilson looked more comfortable at SLB than he did this spring.
...Devin Thomas has terrific speed and showed that with some deep routes in one-on-one drills in the morning. Did not see him flash much in full-team work, but there were a lot of screens and runs and passes over the middle. But Thomas did haul in a nice deep ball on a post route during the one-on-one session.
...Former Redskin Ross Tucker attended camp as part of his Sports Illustrated duties. He was one of the good guys to deal with back in the day, making the team as an undrafted FA in 2001. He remains a big Marty Schottenheimer fan.
...Clinton Portis and Jim Zorn say they are ‘'on the same page''. But we'll see when the first sign of trouble arises during the season. That's when you know if you're even in the same book.
...Portis talked about a near-rebellion over a curfew set the Friday before the San Francisco game. But that's not what we heard from others.
...Portis needs to point more fingers at himself when it comes to things that have gone wrong. Teammates shake their head at much of what he says.
...But he did draw a chuckle over his dying-the-hair blonde thing. Wants to assure everyone that he is not gay. ‘'There's not a woman in the United States of America who would say that,'' he said.
...OK then. Back to football.
...H.B. Blades was the No. 2 middle linebacker with Alfred Fincher the No. 1 guy on the strongside (with Brian Orakpo still unsigned).
