…Malcolm Kelly worked as the No. 2 receiver this afternoon. Not sure yet what that means, but it is clear that he's more noticeable on the field than Devin Thomas.
…The Redskins worked a lot on their quick passing game. This isn't just for Pittsburgh; they've done this before. But it was noteworthy.
…Chris Cooley, Antwaan Randle El and Kelly all had good days catching the ball. Randle El made a leaping grab downfield; Cooley caught everything in sight (oops; he did have one drop) and Kelly earned applause from Jim Zorn after one catch, mostly for how he ran the route.
…Joe Bugel got ticked off at the first line and threw down the towel he was holding, while shouting at someone. Not sure who because we had to stand a good hundred yards away.
…The Redskins practiced in shoulder pads and shorts, and helmet of course. Expect a full-pad workout Tuesday morning followed by an easier one in the afternoon.
…Reed Doughty dropped an interception and was beaten on a deep ball by Randle El.
…On one play Robert Jackson jumped just a little vs. RT Devin Clark. And he still couldn't beat Clark around the end.
…LaRon Landry would have taken Jason Campbell's head off on one blitz had it been a real game. On the play Campbell kept going and hit Thomas downfield vs. Justin Tryon. In fairness to Tryon, he had stopped running because the play was practically over. Again, Tryon was solid today.
…Clinton Portis won't play but a quarter vs. Pittsburgh Saturday night.
…The coaches like how Chase Daniel has improved his footwork. He's also bending his knees more in the pocket, which they say has led to increased accuracy. He's still a bit off on enough throws to suggest one thing: practice squad.
…London Fletcher led a group of defenders who tied up Kevin Barnes and Robert Henson to a goal post. Lucky for them an ESPN crew (with Chris Mortensen) was there to film it all. But they took it in stride. Some rookies do not.
