…The Redskins say Stephon Heyer's run blocking has improved and it has. However, that does not yet mean he's a good run blocker. Until he consistently opens cutback lanes and gets to linebackers, he'll remain a suspect run blocker. There's no doubt he deserves the starting right tackle job, but there's work to be done on his game.
…Carlos Rogers (calf), Rock Cartwright (groin), Mike Williams (ankle) and Devin Clark (knee) did not practice today. Cartwright said he expects to play Friday. He said he's been bothered by the groin all of camp and the coaches wanted him to take a day off so it didn't develop into something worse.
…Chase Daniel apparently is a bit annoyed that people keep questioning his height. Again, at the combine he measured 6-feet. In person he seems shorter. That's all we know.
…The offense he ran the other night was very plain, but the coaches loved how he threw in rhythm and made the right reads. That says a lot.
…We also know that Colt Brennan is running more sophisticated plays, such as the one where he threw the interception. It's not a play that Daniel could run now because it features more crossing action.
…Notable sight: Jason Campbell walked from the practice field to the locker room with owner Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato. Not reading into it, just noting it. It still has to be weird for Campbell knowing that those are the two guys who wanted to trade him.
…Coach Jim Zorn said the competition for No. 2 receiver between Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas is even. A week or two ago it wasn't; Thomas was in the lead based on his experience from last season and on Kelly missing some time in the offseason.
…Two guys Joe Bugel has consistently liked this summer: backup C Will Montgomery and C/G Edwin Williams. Montgomery has been a pleasant surprise and very consistent. Williams anchors well because of his strong lower body. He's playing more at guard lately and must show he can develop there to make the final roster.
