Orakpo Makes Pro Bowl Over Fletcher?

Today, the NFL announced the Pro Bowl rosters today. Brian Orakpo made it as a reserve at Outside Linebacker while London Fletcher got snubbed, yet again.

There is no doubt Brian Orakpo is having a fine rookie campaign. He should be considered a top contender for the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Here are his accomplishments this season:

  • Played admirably while starting a new position for much of the season.

  • Set Redskins' season sack record for a rookie with 11 sacks.

  • Tied the club record for sacks in a game with 4 against the Raiders.

  • His 44 yards lost on his 4 sacks are the most by a player since 1994.

  • Won NFL Player of the Week for the Raiders Game

While we congratulate Brian Orakpo's accomplishments and Pro Bowl selection this season, we must also question the selection process. After all, his best plays have come as a defensive end with his hand in the dirt. How on earth does London Fletcher get snubbed again while a Linebacker who's best plays were at defensive end get in? I get that the Redskins as a whole have been pretty bad this season. It has been one of the worst seasons in the team's recent history.

But that is no excuse to snub London Fletcher. Even some of the commentators on the NFL Network that were announcing the rosters were shocked at the snub.
