Editor and publisher of Mike Detillier's NFL Draft Report, Detillier has also spent over 20 years as part of the LSU radio network.
And he was quite impressed with Hopkins' 13 catches for 191 yards and two touchdowns against the Bayou Bengals.
"LSU, they had one of the elite secondaries in college football and no one, no one torched them like Hopkins did," Detillier recently told CUTigers in an interview. "He seemingly was open every play, every play. I've never seen anyone do that to them, at that level."
Detillier added, "It was amazing to watch. Because, on a one-game performance, he's as good as I've seen at that wide out position against that quality of defense."
An All-ACC first-team pick, Hopkins finished his junior season with 82 catches for 1,405 yards and 18 touchdowns. Over his three-year career, he totaled 206 receptions for 3,020 yards and 27 scores.
"I think he's a potential first-round guy," Detillier said. "I think that he could be a late first-round pick. He's my fourth-ranked receiver in this draft class behind Cordarrelle Patterson from Tennessee, Tavon Austin from West Virginia and Keenan Allen from California. He's four. He sits right on the cusp of a late first, early second-round pick."
Detillier believes Houston and Baltimore could be potential selectors for Hopkins during Thursday night's round.
Hopkins also had multiple visits with Carolina and St. Louis.
"A big, tough, physical receiver, excellent route runner, strong hands -- what I like about him is his ability to make something happen after the catch," Detillier said. "You just see how well he can maneuver down field. He can break a tackle when he gets out in the open field. I like that element with him.
"He's not, I guess, what you want to call a stretch guy. But, if you don't respect him, he'll beat you deep. But his real assets are his abilities to make that short, medium-range catch. He can do something afterwards and move the chains for you. He's a very affective player in the red zone."
Detillier likened Hopkins to a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a Super Bowl champion.
"When I look at him, he's got a similar physical set, athletic set, football set to Anquan Boldin coming out of Florida State. A little quicker, a little faster player, but a similar type player," Detillier said.
Consistency, particularly during his final season at Clemson, helps make Hopkins a quality prospect for this week's draft, according Detillier said.
"Throughout the season, his ability to come up with that game-changing play…he's a really, really good pro prospect," Detillier said.
