Saints Ink DT Jackson

Less than 24 hours after signing free agent receiver Jerome Pathon, the Saints signed veteran DT Grady Jackson to a two year deal worth $3.275 million with a $750,000 signing bonus.

Less than 24 hours after signing free agent receiver Jerome Pathon, the Saints signed veteran DT Grady Jackson to a two year deal worth $3.275 million with a $750,000 signing bonus.

Jackson, 29, gives the Saints a very solid three man rotation at DT with incumbents Norman Hand and Martin Chase. Second year pro Kenny Smith will likely be moved to DE, but will be a part of the DT rotation.

Jackson is listed at 6'2", 325, but one personnel man we spoke with from the Raiders told SaintsInsider that he is closer to 350. "Bottom line is that the kid is a hell of a player. We hate to lose him, especially with our DT situation being as it is, but that's the business", said a Raider personnel staff member.

This is a HUGE signing for the Saints who are STILL looking to move up into the top 8 picks to draft Donte Stallworth out of Tennessee. Expect this to be the final FA signing until after the draft, as the Saints have been very busy the last 12 days. They will now huddle up and think of a way to get better and younger via the draft next weekend.
