SaintsInsider.com has learned that the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers have been in contact over the past 48 hours discussing a possible draft day trade. The Panthers, who currently have the #2 overall pick are not sold on taking Julius Peppers at #2 and feel it would be a reach to draft Quentin Jammer of Phillip Buchanon that high.

Sources indside the Saints' organization told SaintsInsider.com that New Orleans initiated contact with the Panthers on Tuesday evening just to inquire what Carolina would be looking for and according to our sources, the two have been talking daily about a possible deal.

The Saints would likely give up both first rounder this year, along with a 3rd round choice in 2002 and their 1st round pick in 2003 to move up. Mueller has been quoted in local media as saying he will do whatever necassary to move up and get his man. No word on who his man is, but it may not be Tennessee WR Donte Stallworth like everyone thinks.

In fact, our sources have indicated that should the Saints move into the #7 or #9 slot, the team would be eyeing Miami CB Phillip Buchanon, Tennessee DT Albert Haynesworth, and Stallworth.

We have also learned that Jim Haslett and Randy Mueller have FINALLY started to take a liking to Hawaii WR Ashley Lelie with the 13th pick. Should the team stay at #'s 13 and 25, expect them to target defense first and receiver second.
