Seventh round — No. 218 overall

DE Bryan Mattison, Iowa

First Mock Draft selection: CB Jonathan Zenon, LSU.

Second Mock Draft selection: WR Pierre Garcon, Mount Union.

Why?: Because one mock draft compared this guy to another former Hawkeye, Aaron Kampman, now knocking the snot out of quarterbacks for the Green Bay Packers.

I actually thought about inserting this guy into my last mock draft, but now that my previous pick — Mount Union WR Pierre Garcon — appears to have slipped out of the draft entirely, I can address a position need and get a potentially solid defensive player.

At 6-foot-2, 287 pounds, scouts say he excels on stunts, plays with smarts and is a better athlete than he looks. He's not an explosive guy, but he defends the run well — and area the Saints need to shore up — and is a power rusher, which means he's a natural fit for the left end.

The Saints had just 33 sacks a year ago and by improving their pass rush they'll improve their pass defense.

Alternate theory: Our expert Tom Marino selected UNLV's Jeremy Geathers in his recent seventh-round mock draft. Geathers is the son of former Saint Jumpy Geathers, so keep an eye on him in this round. Jeremy, though, is more of a speed rusher. One mock draft has Hampton DE Kendall Langford dropping into the seventh round, and that would represent a great value here.

And don't forget to stop by on Monday for my sixth-round selection.
