The New Orleans Saints sent a second-round and fifth-round selection to the New York Giants for disgruntled tight end Jeremy Shockey, who missed Super Bowl XLII with an injury.

Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer first broke the story. Shockey must still pass a team physical for the trade to be complete.

"He's an impact player, and has been a key part of every offense he has played for – both as a blocker and as a receiver," said Saints GM Mickey Loomis. "This is a move we have been working on closely with the Giants, and we're really pleased to add Jeremy to our roster."

The Giants announced the deal via their Web site.

"Jeremy Shockey was a great competitor and contributor during his years with the Giants," general manager Jerry Reese said. "We wish him well in New Orleans."

The Saints offered the Giants a second-round and fifth-round pick for Shockey during the NFL Draft, but were turned down.
