James Hasty contacted

The Seattle Seahawks saw a heated competition turn into cornerback controversy after starter Shawn Springs and veteran Willie Williams were injured during the first two weeks of preseason. Left with Rookie Ken Lucas and second-year man Ike Charlton as starters, the team has put out feelers to see if they could add depth to the position until Springs returns, perhaps in the fourth week against Oakland.

The team contacted former Washington State Cougar, James Hasty earlier this week, who spent seven seasons with the Jets and six with the Chiefs, but the two sides couldn't agree to terms on how they would meet. Hasty, a Seattle-area native, wanted to receive a contract offer before making a visit according to head coach/ GM Mike Holmgren.

Naturally the team wanted Hasty, who was released by the Chiefs after the 2000 season, to visit in-person before making an offer. It is possible that discussions could be over with the former Pro Bowl cornerback.
