Three must defensive improvements for Seattle.

The Seattle Seahawks had the league worst run stop defense in 2002. The team was last in yards allowed a game, and average gain per rush. The team was 31st in 3rdown efficiency out of 32 teams. Add a 30th ranking in allowing opponents first downs and the bottom line reads a league worst defense against the run. Seattle used its first two picks on defensive players. Cornerback Marcus Trufant was the team's number 1 pick (11th overall) and Safety Ken Hamlin was the 2nd pick (42 overall)

1.       Rookie Cornerback Marcus Trufant sees playing time and makes an immediate impact.

The 5-11 Truant signed his contract  and was ready for the teams first day of training camp.

The Seahawks secondary can be as good as any other in the league when everyone comes to play.

Left Cornerback Shawn Springs should rebound from an injury-plagued year, Right Cornerback Ken

Lucas improves each year, free agent acquisition Free safety Damien Robinson should be a good  complement to safety Reggie Tongue another, a solid non-sense player." I can't imagine us being any worse than last year , we have the capability to be one of the best secondary ‘s  in the league." Ken Lucas said of the teams  defensive back unit.

2.       Defensive players quickly pick up the Ray Rhodes system and the team gels as a unit.

Free agent signees, DT Norm Hand, DE Chike Okeafor, S Damien Robinson, rookies C Marcus Trufant, S Ken Hamlin and others will be learning a new defensive scheme from defensive guru Ray Rhodes. " We are all motivated, everyone is working hard and we are ready to get it done", Linebacker Anthony Simmons said of the team's attitude after several days of training camp.

Simmons was a must resign free agent for the Seahawks and is expected to provide veteran leadership.

3.       Defensive Line performs as expected and stays injury free.

The Hawks picked up DE Chike Okeafor and DT Norman Hand to bolster the much-maligned defensive line. Okeafor played for the Niners last season and recorded career-high six sacks.

Okeafor will play the right and Antonio Cochran moves to the left side of the line. Hand was acquired via a draft day trade with New Orleans.

Hand is expected to back up veterans John Randell and Chad Eaton. Cedric Woodard and Rocky Bernard figure to be in the picture.

The pieces are all their and the question now is how will they fit together.

If the newly acquired players and incumbents come together , the team could dramatically improve it's presence in the middle of the defense meaning run stops and sacks. Top Stories
