Trufant named starter.

With Cornerback Shawn Springs projected to miss eight weeks due to a shoulder injury, first round draft pick Marcus Trufant will step in and start at the left cornerback slot when the Seahawks take on the New Orleans Saints Sunday at Seahawks stadium.

Trufant was the 11th player picked in the first round in this years draft and kept improving with each practice and game action.

Before spring's injury, Trufant was playing the left side of the field in the Hawks nickel defense package.

"I've been playing a lot and getting a lot of experience. I've been rotating in and out-one's, two's-and I've been coming in on the nickel. When I've been out on the field, I've just been playing hard. Trufant said of his preseason experience. I'm going to continue what I've been doing, work hard every day and try to get better."

Trufant will not be the only rookie starter on Sunday. Second round draft pick Ken Hamlin will be the other starter. Like Trufant, Hamlin stepped in for an injured starter.

Hamlin stepped in at Free Safety when Damien Robinson injured a shoulder during the team's public scrimmage at Seahawks stadium last month.

"Two rookies getting thrown into the fire, but that's what it's about. Trufant said of him and Hamlin starting." When you come to the NFL you are expected to play and that's what we're here to do, here to help the team."

Defensive Coordinator Ray Rhodes is confident Trufant and Hamlin can get the job done. " They're two exceptional young men and we are excited about there progress". Rhodes said.

In all the Seahawks kept all nine drafts picks. Wide Receiver Taco Wallace was placed on the five men practice squad.

Drafted players who made the team, Marcus Trufant, Ken Hamlin, T Wayne Hunter, QB Seneca Wallace, LB Solomon Bates, FB Chris Davis, DT Rashad Moore, and K Josh Brown.

Practice Squad: CB Walter Bernard, TE Deitan Dubuc, T Dustin Kroeker, WR Jerheme Urban and WR Taco Wallace were named to the teams practice squad. All five players were with the club during this preseason. Top Stories
