Seattle hangs on for 20 to 19 win

Josh Brown booted a 37-yard field to give the Seattle Seahawks a 20 to 19 win over the San Francisco 49ers at Seahawks Stadium. The win improves Seattle record to 4-1 and gives them a three game lead in the NFC West. San Francisco drops to 2-4. The Seahawks had 8 penalities for 105 yards.

The Seattle Seahawks jumped out to a 17 – 0 lead then watched as the 49ers scored 19 straight points to take the lead. Seattle converted   a late field goal and recovered a fumble send to 67,437 Seattle fans home happy.

 

 

San Francisco kicker  Owen Pochman missed  wide right on a 38 yard field  after the 49ers first possession of the game stalled at the Seattle 19 yard. 

 

Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck hit Itula Muli with a fifteen yard pass to give  Seattle a quick 7-0 lead on it's first possession of  the game.

Seattle fullback Mack Strong  gave Seattle a 17-0 lead when he scored from  21 yards out.

"It's a play we ran many times during  the off season, training camp and preseason." Strong said of the play." The line blocks  that  extremely well and one of the key blocks believe it or not was from Shaun Alexander."

San Fran kicker Owen Pochman hit a 42 yard field  with three seconds in the first half to  narrow Seattle's lead to  14 points.   Seattle  17 San Francisco  3 Halftime

The 49ers then went on a  16-0  run to take the lead.

Garrison Hearst scored on a 6 yard run with 10:38 left in the 3rd quarter.   Seattle 17 San Fran 10.

Jeff Garcia's two yard run brought the 49ers to within one point with 56 seconds left in the third quarter.

Kicker Owen Pochman missed the extra point and the Seahawks held a slim one point lead.

Seattle was penalized for two unnecessary roughness penalties (Robbie Tobeck, Matt Hasselbeck) on its next offensive possession and punted the ball after just three plays. Head Coach Mike Holmgren was dissatisfied with the number of penalties the Seahawks had in the game. " It was uncharacteristic, and I will not tolerate it." Holmgren said after the game.

 

 

San Fran kicker Owen Pochman made good on a 33-yard field goal to give the 49ers a 19 to 17 lead with 8:09 left in the game.

Seattle then drove to the San Francisco 19yard line and settled for a 37-yard field goal by Josh Brown to take a 20 to 19 lead with 3: 04 left in the game. " I did not feel any pressure tonight." Brown said." I knew the situation and I knew what I had to do. Luckily, I have a good surrounding of veterans to keep me stable."

San Francisco running back Garrison Hurst fumbled the ball and Cornerback Ken Hamlin jumped on it.

" The guys worked hard and Chad Brown stripped the ball and I jumped on it." Hamlin said of the play, "I wasn't thinking about running I was just trying to get on the ball and make sure we had possession."

Darrell Jackson ( 5-55) Koren Robinson ( 3-32). San Francisco's defense was ranked 3rd in the NFL ( 4th rush,  9th pass) going into the game. Seattle had   ( 147 rushing, 186passing) 333 total yards.
