Seahawks - Steelers Post Game Notes

<b>Seattle prevails 23 to 16</b> <br><br> <b> Seattle wins</b> <br><br> The Seattle Seahawks stayed undefeated at home with a hard fought 23 to 16 win over the stubborn Pittsburgh Steelers. After a defensive first half , the two teams offenses turned it up notch to turn an boring game into a thriller , that was not decided until midday in through the fourth quarter.

The Seahawks scored on their first possession of the game when Josh Brown hit a 36 yard field goal with 3:38 gone in the first quarter.

Pittsburgh tied the score at threes when Jeff Reed connected from 49 yard outs after Seattle's John Randle was penalized for defensive offside with 2:48 gone in the second quarter.

"There was a substitution mix up , and then John Randle came running of," Head Coach Mike Holmgren said of the play. " They actually called us for being offside on the play not for having too many men out there, that is a communication problem that should not happen , we will correct ".

Seattle went up 6-3 on a 46yd filed goal by Josh Brown with six minutes left in the first half. Drive line 6 plays 9 yards 2:21 time of possession

Both offenses continued their sloppy first half play and the Seahawks went into the locker room with a 6- 3 lead. Both defenses gave up two first half sacks. Seattle was one for seven on third down conversions while Pittsburgh was 0 for six.

Seattle linebacker D. D. Lewis blocked a Steeler punt to start the second half and Orland Huff recovered the ball on the Steeler 27 yard line.

The last time the Seahawks blocked a punt was October 14 2001 vs. Denver.

The Seattle moved the ball to the Steeler 16 yard line and had to settle for a field goal by Josh Brown . Before Brown's kick , Seattle challenged an incomplete pass ruling by the game officials on a Koren Robinson catch. Seattle lost the challenge. Brown made good on the 34 yarder.

Pittsburgh answered Seattle with a Jeff Reed 33 yard field goal on it's next possession Pittsburgh 6 Seattle 9

Matt Hasselbeck then hit Darrell Jackson with a 14 yard pass to give Seattle a 16 to 6 lead on it's next possession. Pittsburgh challenged the catch but lost the Challenge.

Pittsburgh quarterback Tommy Maddox hit Hines Ward from two yards out bring Pittsburgh within three points with nine and a half minutes left in the game.

Shaun Alexander brought the lead back to ten point lead when he scored on a one yard run with 7:21 left in the game. The 65 yard drive was aided by a 43 yard reception by Darrell Jackson.

Pittsburgh then drove 68 yards to the Seattle three and kicked a field goal to cut the lead to seven Pittsburgh 16 Seattle 23

Seattle punted from it's 36 yard line after gaining one first down .

The Pittsburgh offense got the ball on it's 24 yard line with 1:05 left to play and saw it's comeback hopes stall eleven yards later.

Damien Robinson started his first game of the season and led the team with nine tackles. Chad Brown had two sacks against his old team. Marcus Trufant had 8 tackles. Norman Hand left the game with a bicep injury. The Seahawks have now won four of their five games against the Steelers. Seattle is off to it's best start since 1999 when it went 8-2. Top Stories
