The Seattle Seahawks filled one of their free agent needs by signing former St Louis defensive end Grant Wistrom.

The 27 year old Wistrom was a 1998 first round draft pick( 6th overall) of the St. Louis Rams and started five of the last season. He had a career-high 11 sacks in 2000 and has had 90-plus tackles the past three seasons.

While he might not be a good of a pass rusher as Jevon Kesse , the former Tennesse Titan who signed with Philadelphia  on Wednesday, Wistrom  is a better run stopper.

We wanted to get a defensive lineman, first of all, and we focused on a defensive end," said Seahawks Head Coach Mike Holmgren. "The two premier guys in free agency were Kearse and Wistrom. So that's what we targeted, and we're tickled pink about it. It makes us better right away."

Wistrom had  a career-high 108 tackles last season to go along with 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble and recovery from his right end position.

He earned NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December after totaling 37 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
