Seahawks.NET Power Rankings - Week Two

After a week in the trenches, the NFL's best rise to the top, and some surprising teams fall a little past their predicted perches. Seahawks.NET's Dylan Johnson ranks the teams 1-32 after a very odd Week One.

What a beginning to the season.  The Lions and 49ers are all alone at the top of their divisions.  The Eagles are alone in the basement of theirs.  The top scoring offenses belong to the New York Giants, Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers respectively, and Detroit’s defense has given up the fewest points.  Ah, parity.

This week’s power rankings have seen the Cowboys and Jaguars leap up 7 spots while the Broncos free-fell 13 positions.

What can you say about the Patriots that hasn't been said a million times already.? They're simply the best team in football.

2
Pittsburgh absolutely crushed Tennessee last week with their 3rd String RB. Until someone can stop the Steelers ground game, they'll continue to pile up the wins.

3
The much maligned Colts D almost pitched a shutout on Sunday night. Okay, so it was vs. the Ravens anemic offense, but that still spells trouble for the Colts opponents this year.
3
4
The loss of Trotter really hurt the Eagles as they were ripped for huge chunks of yards up the middle. That won't happen this week.
2
5
The Chiefs D wasn't really tested against a woeful Jets offense, but Larry Johnson shredded the solid NY D.

6
Not a great performance by Mr. Vick, but with Warrick Dunn and Falcons D firing on all cylinders, he doesn't need to be great, just smart with the football.
8
7
The Bills scored on their first 5 drives last week and the defense generated five turnovers, five sacks and gave up a mere 120 yards.
7
8
How much did San Diego miss Antonio Gates on 4th down last week? He returns this week to face the hapless Broncos.
5
9
Carolina never quit, but the D couldn't make the key stops at the end of the game either.
6
10
If anyone has seen signs of the Ravens offense, please call Brian Billick immediately.
10
11
The Cowboys show confidence and toughness in hanging with the Chargers and stealing a win in the 4th quarter. These are the kinds of games that teams build on.
18
12
The Jags stuck to their game plan and ground out a solid win at home to open the season.
19
13
Tampa appears to be prepared to ride Cadillac all season. The defense stood tall against the much ballyhooed Vikings offense. Tampa would appear to be a team on the rise.
16
14
Good job, Mr. Lewis. Your team beat a division rival to open the season. Now let's see how you do against some real competition.
15
15
Questionable play calling and bad decision making by Matt Hasselbeck have Seattle fans scratching their heads. Note to Coach Holmgren: Andy Reid tried running just 14 times vs Atlanta last week and it didn't work. Just thought you'd like to know.
12
16
The Giants absolutely dismantled the overhyped Cards in the second half. Eli was shaky but the running game and special teams bailed him out.
22
17
Aaron Brooks avoided costly mistakes and Deuce ran well against a stout Carolina run D. It should be a great game on Monday Night
23
18
A division win is a division win, and the Lions are a game up on everyone else in the "Black and Blue" NFC North.
24
19
Wha'happened?
13
20
Someone forgot to tell the Jets that preseason was over. If they thought the New York Press was brutal before, just try losing the home opener to the Dolphins.

21
The Texans looked woeful vs. the Bills last Sunday. Things aren't looking any better this week as Houston hosts Pittsburgh.
17
22
Everyone knew the Miami D would shine under Nick Saban, but who expected 27 points from the Miami Offense? If Miami can pull off a road win in New Jersey this weekend, look for all of the Pregame Shows during Week 3 to have interviews with a new media darling ... Nick Saban.
28
23
The 49ers are in first place in the NFC West. Say it now because not every team will be as willing to hand over wins as the Rams were last Sunday.
31
24
It only took 2 quarters for the wheels to come off of the Arizona bandwagon.
20
25
Tough loss to a division rival to start the year. Note to Torry Holt: Talking smack after you've lost is usually a bad idea.
21
26
If Washington could ever score some touchdowns, they'd be a legit challenger for the playoffs. This week's QB Mark Brunell will try to squeeze more than 3 FG's out of the offense.
26
27
The Broncos played last Sunday like it was the Playoffs … meaning they couldn't do anything right. Losing Champ Bailey and Mike Anderson won't help things much.
14
28
It's going to be a looooooong season in Titletown.
25
29
The Browns had two touchdowns called back on penalties. 'Nuff said.
30
30
The Titans couldn't stop the run. They knew it was coming. They put 8 in the box. And they still couldn't stop the run. That spells disaster.
27
31
The Raiders had 16 penalties for 149 yards in Foxboro last week. You're not gonna beat ANYONE with sloppy play like that.
29
32
Chicago may eventually claw out of the basement, but when you can't beat a team that your defense keeps out of the end zone all game, your offense stinks.
