Seahawks Hold #1 Offensive Ranking

The results are in – and after five weeks of the 2005 NFL season, the Seattle Seahawks have the #1 offense in the NFL.

Seattle has averaged 396.8 yards per game, beating out division rival St. Louis, who holds the #2 spot with 384.8 YPG. In their 37-31 win over the Rams, Seattle outgained St. Louis 433-386 in net yardage.

Seattle is sixth in the NFL with 676 rushing yards (135.2 yards per game), and Shaun Alexander leads the league with 574 yards on 109 attempts, a 5.3 yards-per carry average. The Seahawks are fifth in the NFL in passing yardage with 1308 yards, or 261.6 yards per game. Matt Hasselbeck has a 97.1 passer rating, good for sixth in the league.

The Seahawks also lead the NFL with 24 first downs per game. They are third in the NFL in yards per play with a 6.0 average – behind only Pittsburgh and San Diego, the two teams who face off tonight.

On the downside, the Seahawks are 18th in the NFL in 3rd down conversion (36.8% - 21 conversions on 57 attempts). They are 15th in time of possession with an average of 30:02 per game.
