Seahawks.NET Power Rankings - Week Nine

Heading into Week Nine in the regular season, things have begun to get interesting in the NFL. Both of last year's Super Bowl teams are just one game over .500, and almost HALF of last year's playoff teams don't have winning records.

Both the Buccaneers and the Bengals lead their divisions and have yet to beat a team with a winning record.  The NFC South has a three way tie for first and the entire NFC East is within one game of each other.  Both the Seahawks and Eagles play all of their divisional rivals over the next three weeks.  Football is in full swing, ladies and gentlemen, and it looks to be one hell of a midseason.

Our big gainer this week was the Carolina Panthers who vaulted seven spots into the Top Ten, while the Redskins and Browns both tumbled six spots after horrible losses.

Last Week
1
The NFL's only undefeated team is injury-free and coming off the bye to face their nemesis: New England, at home.
1
2
Monday Night's game against the Ravens was a lot closer than it should have been.
2
3
The Seahawks can prove they're not the "Same Old Seahawks" by finally winning a game after the bye week. Lucky for them they play Arizona.
3
4
The Giants put themselves in the drivers seat in the toughest division in football by crushing Washington last week.
5
5
Denver absolutely dismantled the reigning NFC Champs last week.
6
6
A divisional win keeps the Patriots in first place headed into Monday Night's game of the week against the Colts.
11
7
The Panthers can prove themselves the favorites for the NFC South by beating the Bucs in Tampa this weekend.
14
8
Dallas needs this week's bye to prepare for their brutal second-half schedule that has them playing 7 of 8 games against teams with a .500 or better record.
10
9
The Falcons had better develop a passing game quickly as they face some the league's best defenses in the coming weeks.
9
10
Well, as soon as I moved the Redskins into the top 5, they lay an egg against the Giants. They might not be top 5 material, but they certainly are better than they played last Sunday.

11
Philadelphia plays each of their divisional rivals over the next three weeks. We'll know whether they're contenders or pretenders after that.
7
12
Special teams lost this one for the Jags: a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and two missed FG's contibuted a 13 point swing in a 7 point game.
8
12
The Chargers clawed their way back to .500. Next up, the Jets and a winning record.
16
13
The Bengals' secondary had 5 interceptions for the third time this season. Now if they could just beat a team with a winning record.
15
14
Suddenly the red zone offense stumbles scoring just twice in six trips inside the 20 and the Cheifs lose another one.
13
15
The Bucs have played the easiest schedule in the NFL so far this season and managed to lose two. Now they play four games in a row against teams with winning records. They'll be lucky to be over .500 at Thanksgiving.
12
17
The Bears should be able to win the NFC North, completing a worst-to-first turnaround in just one year.
17
18
Don't look now, but with a bye upcoming, the Rams are only one game out of first place in the NFC West.
18
19
The Raiders offense has finally woken up and the defense is giving just enough to win. They'll climb into the Playoff picture if they steal a road in in Kansas City this week.
20
20
If the Dolphins ever get a QB they'll contend. For now, though, they're strictly an also-ran.
19
21
Buffalo was unable to finish off long drives with touchdowns, allowing the Patriots to come back in the end and win.
21
22
The Ravens showed a never-say-die attitude on Monday Night. They're not gonna roll over for any team this season.
25
23
The good news: Anquon Boldin isn't lost for the season. The bad news: Arizona just isn't very good.
23
24
Nine penalties, including one that brought back a punt return for a TD, a slew of dropped passes and a botched extra point. Hard to win when you keep shooting yourself in the foot.
24
25
The Lions gave one away at home in overtime. That's why they spend every January on the golf course.
22
26
Brett Farve looked very human last week throwing 5 INT's and blowing the final play of the game. Without him at the top of his game, the Packers are doomed.
28
27
Daunte Culpepper is gone for this season and maybe even the beginning of next season. The fat lady is singing in Minnesota.
27
28
San Francisco has proven that if you let them hang around until the end of the game, they can make you pay.
31
29
Aaron Brooks had 2 fumbles, a sack resulting in a safety and generally was his own worst enemy last week. If he was on any other team, he'd be riding pine. No matter where the Saints play next year, Jim Haslett won't be there.
29
30
LaDanian Tomlinson has thrown as many TD passes as the entire Jets offense.
30
31
Breaking News: The Texans won! We now return you to your regularly scheduled losses.

I thought the Browns would be better than this, I really did.
