Seahawk Players Get a Jolt in Van Accident

Several Seahawk Pro Bowlers got a jolt today when a van carrying them to a press conference was struck by a mechanical security fence. No injuries were reported.

DETROIT – Nothing like a good jolt to wake the players up for their press conference. In a freak accident that left nobody injured, Shaun Alexander, Matt Hasselbeck, Steve Hutchinson, Walter Jones and Michael Boulware were jolted when a mechanical security fence hit the van carrying the players to a press conference.

The van was struck from the side and below by the automatic gates at the hotel entrance that was hosting the press conference.

"It was a big jerk. That was about it," Jones said. "It was a freak thing. But everyone laughed it off."

Alexander mentioned a loud bang that startled the players, especially the driver of the van.

"It was crazy," Alexander said. "We all got tossed around a bit inside. But we're all OK."

Alexander mentioned seeing Pittsburgh running back Jerome Bettis coming out of the hotel soon after the incident.

"I said to him, 'Do you have one of those automatic things to push the gates down?' He said, 'No, it wasn't me,"' Alexander said.

NFL vice president of security Mitch Ahlerich said the accident would be reviewed.

"The most important thing is that no one was injured," he said.
