NET's Photo Blog of SBXL (Part One)

NET's Todd Breda and Mark Olsen took the trip of their lifetime as they headed to Detroit to witness in person the Seattle Seahawks in their first ever Super Bowl in franchise history. Here's a glimpse inside their journey documented in photos.

Mark Olsen (rockhawkx) and I finally arrive in Detroit! Apparently we landed in the "1970's Ward" of the airport. Oh well...At least they were kind enough to put up this banner for us weary travellers.

It may not look like much to you but this hotel room of ours was an absolute steal for the price. Here Mark is seen in his natural element, checking the pulse of NET Nation.

A room with a...view? Welcome to Detroit.

This is only PART of the line that we had to stand in to pick up a shuttle to haul fans into downtown Detroit to enjoy the NFL Experience and all the other weekend festivities. The line wrapped around the mall parking lot...I estimated about a half mile long total. We stood in line for nearly 2 hours in the freezing rain. As Mark and I liked to put it, we were gladly "Taking one for the team."

After enduring utter chaos outside (more long lines, shouting attendants, shuffling us all here and there, there and here) we finally made it inside to the NFL Experience. It was a massive and impressive display. Unfortunately the lines for the interactive games were too long so Mark and I lost a golden opportunity to impress the babes with our "mad skillz".

It's hard to appreciate the size of this event by the pictures alone. There was tons of stuff to do and see (and buy).

This was one of the Seahawks-related displays at NFL Experience. Mark and I both expected more Seahawks stuff but after all, this was an "away game" from the start. That we knew the second we got off the shuttle in downtown Detroit when we were immersed in an endless sea of Steelers black and gold.

A huge poster of Shaun Alexander looms over fans at the NFL Experience.

Damn Shaun, you need to eat some meat loaf, brother.

After the NFL Experience, Mark and I ventured off into the cold, blistery streets of downtown Detroit to look for "our kind". We made our way to the Renaissance Center (the building the media was broadcasting all week leading up to SBXL) where we finally found a small but VERY VOCAL contingency of fellow Seahawks diehards.

The drinks were flowing, confidence was sky high...Chants of "SEAHAWKS! SEAHAWKS!" were drowning out any Steelers fan unlucky enough to walk into our makeshift tailgating party.

One brave Steelers fan did make it into our section, defiantly defending his Steelers at all cost. After a few minutes of healthy smack talk, both sides finally laughed and agreed..."Seahawks RULE!!" Or...Something like that.

More and more fans kept showing up (we could be heard from anywhere in the building I'm sure). A total blast.

Eventually, it was back to the cold, dark reality which was, well...Detroit in February as fans stood in line to catch the shuttle back to their cars and finally home to their hotel rooms. Yes, it really was as cold as it looks.

Coming soon...Super Bowl Sunday! Look for more photos of our seriously killer prefunk and SBXL.
