5. Marshal Yanda, OT/G Iowa 6-4,305 (5.0)
NFL Comparison - Jon Stinchcomb, New Orleans
Just a two-year starter for the Hawkeyes after transferring from junior college, but started both years at right guard and tackle. Isn't physically imposing and needs work in that area if he's going to play guard in the NFL, where he should wind up. Doesn't have the agility to play tackle in the NFL. Got much better as a senior and needs another jump in skill if he's going to start at the next level. Was co-captain for Iowa last year and also won an award for extra effort.
Run Blocking -
Needs to add muscle and has to keep his feet moving after making contact. Is quick and can pull. Understands leverage and has decent hand placement, but lack of strength makes it difficult for him to maintain push up front.
Pass Protection -
Is much better in this area, but not as a tackle in the NFL. Had some nice moments in the Senior Bowl during one-on-one drills, but was also beaten badly several times. Needs consistency, but more importantly, needs more time to develop.
Draft Projection -
Yanda looks like a fourth-round pick, but it's possible a team that can wait for him to develop might pull the trigger on him in the third round.
His lack of power is certainly a concern, but Yanda works hard and is a leader. He's a decent athlete and shows good fundamentals, but absolutely must get stronger if he's going to start. Yanda has potential to be very solid, but it's going to be up to him to reach that level.
