Seattle reverts to losing ways against Denver

The demons of the past came back to haunt the Seattle Seahawks in a 31 to 9 loss to the Denver Broncos. The offensive line once again could not block , run the ball, or score a touchdown. The defense once again could not stop the run.

The Seattle offense managed just 51rushing yards. Seahawk running back Shaun Alexander gained a mere 18 yards on 11 carries. Seattle finished the day with  204 total yards. Denver on  the other hand netted a total of 401 yards. At half time the Seahawks had  four first downs  and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck had been sacked four times.

Although they were down  by just three points the Seattle offense had 55 total yards after two quarters of play.

Seattle Head Coach Mike Holmgren was clearly frustrated by his teams inability to run the ball." We came in trying to run the ball and didn't do a very good. We just couldn't seem to get it done in the red zone in the first half ." Holmgren said.

Seattle looked like it might make a game of it, when it took  the second half  kickoff  and tied the game on a 52 yard field goal by Ryan Lindell.

Denver answered Seattle's challenge with a  nine yard touchdown run by fullback Mike Anderson. Denver 10- Seattle 3.

Lindell made it Denver 10  Seattle 6 when  Ryan Lindell made good on  a  37 yard field goal with 6:04 left in the third quarter.

The Denver offense continued to move the ball on the Seattle offense.

Quarterback Brian Griese moved the offense to the Seattle 17 yard line.

Griese hit Wide Receiver Rod Smith to move the ball to the Seattle one yard line

Seattle Linebacker Rocky Bernard was called for a personal foul for hitting Griese during the play.

Griese sustained a knee injury on the play and back up quarterback Steve Beuerlein entered the game.

After two failed quarterback sneaks and a no gain  run by  Clinton  Portis , Beuerlein hit back up Tight End  Patrick Hape for the touchdown on fourth down and one.

" I felt  pretty comfortable, I was a little bit  excited, it had been almost  two years since my last game action ," Beuerlein said when asked if he was nervous going into the game for the injured Griese.

Seattle  managed to move  the ball  into the Denver  red zone, but stalled once again and had to settle for another field goal by Lindell.  Lindell's third field goal  from 29 yard field made it Denver 17 Seattle 9 with  6:03 left in the game.

Denver dashed any hopes of a Seattle comeback when Beuerlein  connected with Wide Reciever Rod Smith on a  14 yard touchdown pass with 5:20 left in the game.

Denver Cornerback Deltha O'Neal added insult to injury when he picked off a Matt Hasselbeck pass and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown with 14 seconds left in the game.
