Team Commentary
1
1
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS The Saints aren't overly reliant on the passing game anymore, and the result is the best start in franchise history.
2
2
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS An injury-decimated secondary was good enough (barely) against the Texans, but with arch-nemesis New England up next, the secondary is the big question mark.
3
4
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS The Pats have looked more like their old selves over the last few weeks, which is bad news for the rest of the AFC.  This week's game against Indy is huge for both teams.
4
5
PITTSBURGH STEELERS The Steelers didn't cross the 50 during the entire first half of Monday night's game in Denver.  Then they simply went off in the second half.  Great halftime adjustment by the o-line.
5
9
CINCINNATI BENGALS The Bengals are 4-0 in their division heading into a huge rivalry game against Pittsburgh.
6
6
MINNESOTA VIKINGS Minnesota continues their bye week against the Lions this Sunday.
7
11
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS The Chargers have finally beaten a team with a winning record.  It remains to be seen if this is a trend or an aberration.
8
13
ATLANTA FALCONS The Falcons resumed their winning ways against the hapless Redskins.
9
14
DALLAS COWBOYS Dallas is starting to look like a contender.  We'll see how they look in December.
10
17
ARIZONA CARDINALS The Cards continued to dominate on the road by crushing the Bears.  This week they look to end the Seahawks postseason hopes in Arizona.
11
3
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES The Eagles game hinged on two horrible spots by the referees.  Then again, if they'd played better, those spots wouldn't have mattered as much.
12
8
DENVER BRONCOS For the second straight week, Denver has mustered virtually no offense.  I don't care how good your defense is, if you leave them on the field for 3/4 of the game, you're not going to win.
13
7
BALTIMORE RAVENS The Ravens look like they're wearing down.  The started the season 3-0, and they've gone 1-4 since.
14
12
MIAMI DOLPHINS The headlines claimed that New England "tamed the wildcat", but Miami scored it's two touchdowns on drives that featured a majority of snaps from that formation.
15
10
NEW YORK GIANTS The Giants played not to lose last Sunday and lost.
16
15
HOUSTON TEXANS The Texans were oh-so-close to knocking off the Colts.  Some say it's the missed field goal at the end of the game, but I think the 13 penalties were the real reason Houston lost.
17
22
TENNESSEE TITANS Tennessee has committed no turnovers in their last two games -- and won them both.
18
24
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS The Jags jumped out to big lead, and then almost blew it, against the woeful Chiefs.  They'll need to play better against the Jets this Sunday.
19
19
NEW YORK JETS The Jets return from the bye to face Jacksonville somewhere in the swamps of Jersey.
20
16
GREEN BAY PACKERS Green Bay should be giving Aaron Rodgers combat pay.  He's already been sacked 37 times this season.
21
18
CHICAGO BEARS I'm guessing the Bears were actually more than "just a quarterback away" from the Playoffs.
22
20
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS No team can spot their opponent 24 points off of turnovers and overcome it.  The 49ers simply have to play smarter football.
23
23
BUFFALO BILLS Buffalo returns from the bye to face the suddenly resurgent Titans.  This game will wind up defining which direction these two teams are headed in 2009.
24
21
CAROLINA PANTHERS Jake Delhomme throws no picks but the team fumbles three times … that's the way the Panthers season has gone this year.
25
26
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS Seattle is still their own worst enemy -- stupid penalties and turnovers abound.  If they don't clean up their act this week, they will get pummeled by the Cardinals.
26
25
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS When an already bad team loses their starting running back, things get uglier before they get better.
26
31
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS Congrats to the Bucs on their first win of 2009.  There are now no winless teams in the NFL.
27
27
ST. LOUIS RAMS I'm trying to imagine a scenario where St. Louis has some sort of shot at beating New Orleans this weekend.  Maybe if the Saints all get the swine flu?
28
28
OAKLAND RAIDERS The Raiders will slug it out with Kansas City this weekend for the keys to the basement of the AFC West.
30
29
DETROIT LIONS How in the world do you blow a 17-point lead?  A:  you're the Lions.
31
30
WASHINGTON REDSKINS Washington's defense, their lone bright spot this season, is wearing down.  The light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train.
32
32
CLEVELAND BROWNS The Browns are in disarray and they have to host the desperate and angry Ravens this weekend.  Yeesh.
