Seahawks Sign Jon Ryan to 6-Year Extension

The Seattle Seahawks have signed punter Jon Ryan to a six-year contract extension, locking him up through the 2015 season.

As first reported by Rob Vanstone of the Regina Leader-Post, the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a six-year contract extension with punter Jon Ryan.

NorthwestFootball.net has confirmed that the six-year deal with the NFC Pro Bowl alternate is worth $9.1 million dollars, and includes a $1.6 million dollar signing bonus. Ryan will have the following base salaries:

2010: $1,000,000
2011: $1,100,000
2012: $1,200,000
2013: $1,300,000
2014: $1,400,000
2015: $1,500,000

$320,000 in signing bonus proration can be added to years 1-5 (2010-14) of the deal to determine Ryan's salary cap number.

The 28-year old Regina, Saskatchewan native joined the Seahawks in Week 2 of the 2008 season, and solidified the position. Over 31 games with the ‘Hawks, Ryan has averaged 45.9 yards per punt, with a net average of 38.6 yards per punt, while putting 34 of his 166 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line.

Ryan also served as a holder for kicker Olindo Mare.

Like Ryan, Mare's contract is set to expire after the 2009 season.
