The Arizona Daily Wildcat reports former University of Arizona basketball player and University of Houston tight end Fendi Onobun will visit the Seattle Seahawks on April 6.
Onobun bypassed playing professional basketball in Europe to transfer to Houston and walk-on to the football team in order to take pursue a career in the National Football League.
Prior to joining the Cougars, Onobun hadn't played football since middle school, and was slowed throughout the season by a sprained ankle. As a backup tight end, Onobun caught two passes for 33 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown against Memphis. Onobun earned Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week honors after blocking a pair of extra points in the Cougars' 50-43 win over Southern Mississippi, including one that was returned 100 yards for a two points.
During Houston's pro day on Tuesday, the 6-5 1/2, 252-pound tight end impressed NFL scouts with his athleticism, scoring an invite not just from the Seahawks, but from the New York Giants, as well.
Here are Onobun's pro day numbers:
40-yard dash: 4.48 seconds
Bench Press: 16 reps
Vertical Jump: 37.5"
Broad Jump: 11'1"
20-yard Shuttle: 4.15 seconds
60-yard Shuttle: 11.64 seconds
3-cone drill: 6.78 seconds
Here's a YouTube video of his workout from last Spring, when he was trying to catch the eye of NFL scouts before transferring to Houston.
