Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports the Seattle Seahawks are set to sign free agent quarterback J.P. Losman.
The 22nd overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Tulane by the Buffalo Bills, Losman (6-2, 212) started 33 games during his five seasons with the Bills, completing 59.2% of his pass attempts for 6,211 yards, with 33 touchdowns and 34 interceptions, compiling a passer rating of 75.6.
Buffalo made no effort to re-sign Losman, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2008 season.
After drawing little interest in the NFL, Losman signed with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League in July. Losman completed 62.6% of his passes for 1,193 yards, 9 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, leading the Locos to the first ever UFL Championship.
Once the UFL season ended, Losman workedout for the Indianapolis Colts last December before signing a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders. Losman threw one incomplete pass in the Raiders' 20-19 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 15. The Raiders did not extend a qualifying offer to Losman, despite him not being eligible for unrestricted free agency.
Losman, 29, replaces first-year quarterback Mike Reilly on the Seahawks' 80-man off-season. Reilly was waived by the Seahawks on Tuesday.
Losman adds veteran competition to the back-end of Seattle's quarterback depth chart, which currently consists of Matt Hasselbeck as the starter, Charlie Whitehurst the #2, and 2009 sixth-round pick Mike Teel.
In addition to waiving Reilly, the Seahawks signed free agent wide receiver Marcus Maxwell on Tuesday.
A seventh-round pick (223rd overall) out of Oregon by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005, Maxwell has been active for nine games in his NFL career, catching one pass for 5 yards as a member of the 2007 Cincinnati Bengals.
Maxwell has also spent time with the Baltimore Ravens, and caught two passes for 27 yards last pre-season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 6-4, 205-pound Maxwell caught 21 passes for 347 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League last Fall.
