Bettis Steamrolling Steelers Defense

LATROBE - The Steelers wrapped up their first week of training camp practices with their second goal line drill. And unlike Wednesday night's drill, when the defense dominated, the offense stole the show Saturday.

The middle of the o-line really caved in the middle of a d-line that included Casey Hampton at nose and Kimo von Oelhoffen and Aaron Smith at his sides. All three were put to the ground.

On the second series, Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala ran twice for gains of 3 and 1 yards before a play-action pass by Charlie Batch beat the defense for a TD catch by JT Wall.

The team is off Sunday, so the offense finishes the week with bragging rights.

Amos Zereoue (foot), Chidi Iuwuoma (ankle) and Tim Levcik (knee) did not practice Saturday. That's in addition to Hank Poteat and Kendall Simmons.

The team revealed a new holder today, as Antwaan Randle El worked in that position with the second field goal unit. Head coach Bill Cowher had some obvious wheels turning inside his head when asked about Randle El as a holder.

Randle El is nursing a hand injury, however, and had a big ice bag on his right hand following practice. It's not considered serious.

James Harrison has replaced Justin Kurpeikis as the right outside linebacker in the second team base defense.

Harrison still doesn't have much of a clue about what he's doing out there, but he does it very hard.

Jay Riemersma finally did something right, catching a TD pass from Maddox between Chad Scott and James Farrior in team drills.
