Wednesday morning practice

LATROBE - Wednesday morning was an uneventful one for the Steelers as they continue to gear up for their first preseason game at Detroit Saturday.

Amos Zereoue was on the sidelines with just a wrap on his injured left ankle.

Zereoue, who said he still hopes to play against the Lions, said that after watching the injury on film, it occurred when somebody rolled up the back of his left ankle on the final play of practice Tuesday.

Plaxico Burress has a sore shoulder and was getting it iced down following practice. In obvious pain, Burress said he fell on the shoulder Monday and then aggravated the injury Tuesday morning lifting weights. It's not considered serious, however.

Jeff Hartings continued to sit out practices, as did Hank Poteat and Tim Levcik.

Fullback Wes Ours was back.

Backup QBs Phil Stambaugh and Brian St. Pierre were rifling balls all over the place this morning, most of which were clanging off the hands of defenders or caroming off the ground.

Neither one of the two QBs seems to have a lot of touch on their passes. They throw them in two speeds, hard and harder.

Tommy Maddox did not look particularly sharp again, something that's becoming a troubling trend. Maybe he'll pick it up when the games start.

The team practices tonight at Greensburg's Offutt Field.
