Steelers Sign Players to Practice Squad

The Steelers signed 4 players to the practice squad, leaving 1 open spot - FB J.T. Wall, RB Dante Brown, DL David Upchurch, and S Russell Stuvaints.

J.T. Wall was the seventh round draft pick in April. A good camp by backup TE Matt Cushing, who has also filled in at fullback in the past, made it difficult for Wall to make the roster. But with starting FB Dan Kreider entering unrestricted free agency next year, it's possible that Wall could have an opportunity for another shot at a fullback spot on the regular roster in the future.

RB Dante Brown was an undrafted free agent out of Memphis who impressed with his speed around the outside in preseason games. A year's seasoning on the practice squad could allow Brown to improve other aspects of his game.

David Upchurch, also an undrafted free agent (from West Virginia), is a player who is familiar with the 3-4 defense, having played it in college at both the DE and NT positions.

Safety Russell Stuvaints is a converted LB who was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Youngstown State. If he can make the transition, Stuvaints has great size for the strong safety position and demonstrated his hitting ability in the preseason.
