Porter upgraded to Questionable

PITTSBURGH - Joey Porter is moving closer to returning to the Steelers lineup, as head coach Bill Cowher upgraded the star linebacker to questionable to play this week against the Cincinnati Bengals.

It may not sound like much, but giving Porter a 50-50 chance to play this Sunday, one month after he was shot in the buttocks outside of a Denver sport bar, is a big improvement. He only began running last week and was listed as doubtful to play last Sunday at Kansas City.

Cowher said Porter will practice in pads Wednesday and that he'll make a determination about Porter's playing time later this week.

In other news Tuesday, Cowher said outside linebacker Erik Flowers, signed two weeks ago, has been released. The team activated running back Dante Brown from the practice squad to take his place on the roster. Brown was activated because running back Verron Haynes is questionable to play this week because of a left knee injury.

Also questionable this week is center Jeff Hartings, who has a left ankle injury. Chukky Okobi would take his place in the starting lineup if Hartings is unable to play.
