Porter practices

PITTSBURGH - Linebacker Joey Porter practiced in pads with his teammates for the first time since being shot in the buttocks Labor Day, moving him one step closer to returning to the Steelers starting lineup.

Porter, the Steelers defensive MVP last season, lined up at his usual right outside linebacker position with the first team defense. But head coach Bill Cowher said he would wait until Thursday before making any decisions about whether Porter would play Sunday at Cincinnati.

While Porter was back at practice Wednesday, center Jeff Hartings, safety Mike Logan and running back Verron Haynes did not practice Wednesday.
