Edwards a Jaguar

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed former first-round pick Troy Edwards on Tuesday to help bolster their struggling receiving corps.

Edwards was the 13th pick of the 1999 draft, but never lived up to expectations. He spent his first three seasons with Pittsburgh, where he caught 98 passes for 1,212 yards. He was with the St. Louis Rams last year, where he caught 18 passes.

The Jaguars are in desperate need of help at receiver. Starters J.J. Stokes and Matt Hatchette have not caught a pass of longer than 14 yards the last two weeks. Jimmy Smith, the team's all-time leading receiver, will miss his fourth straight game this week as he serves a suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
