Batch - Maddox Talk about the Steelers Loss

Charlie Batch
"It's one of those things where you have to assess the whole team. I don't think it's fair to put this on one position because we're in this together. There's a lot of blame to go around, but at the same time, we've got look at this, critique it and really look at what we need to do to get better. And that's in all three phases, offense, defense and special teams.

Q: You've been on both sides of these things. You know right away, the finger pointing is going to start with the quarterback.
CB: It's like that, especially when we're not scoring more points. I think when you don't score enough points to win the game, obviously (quarterbacks) are the ones who have to shoulder the blame because we're the guys leading this offense. That's something that we know comes with the territory. When you don't put the points up, there's going to be a lot of blame to go around. At the same time, you have to let it go. We have to regroup. We're only five games into this.

Q: How's it look from the sidelines?
CB: It's close. It's one of the things with offense. Whenever you have 11 guys out there, they have to be on the same page. If one guy messes up, the whole play looks bad. From a defensive standpoint, if one guy messes up, you have the guy beside you to make a play. It doesn't work like that on offense. That's something we've done over the past couple of games, you can't just say this one.

Jerome Bettis
"It's frustrating to be in a situation like this that we created with the mistakes."

Q: This is basically a passing team now. In the past it's been a running team. Are they going to let you get back involved with this thing?
JB: I don't know. I'm just a football player. I play, they coach. Whatever they ask me to do, that's what I do.

Tommy Maddox
Q: It is obvious that it was another rough night for you?
TM: Yes, that is obvious. I think it was a rough night for all of us.

Q: You have had two games in a row where things have not gone your way. How difficult is it to try to fix something like this?
TM: You keep working harder. You go back to practice and you keep working harder. That is one thing I know how to do. I think there is a resolve with this team and I think everybody realizes that we have to go to work hard this week and start winning football games.

Q: Were the Browns playing two deep?
TM: Yeah, when you are trying to play catch up, it makes it a lot easier on them. All that they are trying to do is not give up a big play. If we are tied or ahead, they might try to do different things to stop us. Once they got ahead, they were just really trying not to give up big plays.

Q: What happened on the first interception?
TM: Yeah, I came up off the fake and had someone in my face. It was one of those deals where they came from behind. You are trying to make a play and get back in the game. I had someone in my face and I thought I could get it to him.

Q: Do you still have confidence?
TM: What do you think I'm going to do? Jump off a cliff? Yes, I have confidence in myself and in my teammates. It is five games into this season. Are were playing where we need to be playing? No. But it is not as gloom and doom as everybody thinks it is. We are going to get this turned around. We are going to work hard and do the things we need to do.
