Steelers Injury Update / Quick Hits

The Steelers are hurting at offensive tackle. Marvel Smith continues to be pestered by a pinched nerve in his shoulder that will keep him out for the fourth straight game. Mathias Nkwenti will have lower back surgery to dislodge a herniated disk from a nerve; he was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.

Quick Hits

  • Todd Fordham will return to start at right tackle. Fordham will be facing Rams left DE Leonard Little, who has six sacks.
  • Two-time All-Pro guard Alan Faneca will make his second straight start at left tackle because of the injuries and the fact Oliver Ross could not handle the job.
  • Keydrick Vincent will start at left guard Sunday in place of Faneca.
  • OT Josh Burr was re-signed to their practice squad and they released S Russell Stuvaints to make room for him.
  • TE Jay Riemersma sprained his MCL in practice Monday and will be replaced by Jerame Tuman in the starting lineup.
  • TE Mark Bruener must be in Bill Cowher's doghouse. After agreeing to a big contract reduction from a little over $2 million to $800,000, Bruener has been inactive three games and now won't start even though Jay Riemersma is hurt.
