Pittsburgh Steelers S Chris Hope Quotes

Chris Hope Q: Everybody else is getting a chance to play in this secondary, why not you?

CH: I've been trying to figure that out too. All I can do is try to stay positive and continue to work hard and get better.

Q: Has Bill or anyone indicated to you that you're close to getting a shot?

CH: Not to my knowledge. All I can do is what they ask me to do. It gets frustrating at times, but I can only do what I can do.

Q: You've been making plays on special teams all year long. Shouldn't that open some eyes?

CH: I try to take it upon myself that every time I touch the field, I want to make a play and take advantage of every opportunity I get and showcase my talent and try to get that extra edge and show I'm capable of being out there. But the opportunities haven't come for me yet.

Q: People talk about this defense being difficult to learn, especially for the safeties. Has that been the case. Do you know this defense?

CH: It's not easy to learn, but I was an academic guy, so I picked up on it pretty fast. But still knowing everything, knowing where to be, knowing where your help is going to be is only going to help you. But you still have to go out and make plays. You see it all around the league. Guys are in position to make plays, but they don't do it. Understanding the defense and where your help is at is an advantage for you, but you still have to go out and play well.

Q: Does it bother you that other guys are getting a shot to play and you're not?

CH: I don't want to say that it bothers me, but everybody wants to play. And everybody would at least like to get the opportunity to play. If I got the opportunity to play and I couldn't do it, I couldn't play, that would be one thing. I would understand a little more. But just sitting b back and nobody ever knowing what you can do is frustrating.

Q: It's not like you played at Slippery Rock or somewhere like that, you played at Florida State. If you can play there, you can pretty much play anywhere.

CH: Definitely. I played against a lot of great players, even just in practice at Florida State. I definitely think I'm capable of playing at this level. From high school ever since I started playing, I've been very good at the position I'm playing. I don't see why it would be any different here.
