Minimum salaries for the 2005 season.

$230,000 for rookies,

$305,000 - for first-year players,

$380,000 - for second-year players,

$455,000 - for third-year players,

$540,000 - for four-six year vets

$665,000 - for seven-nine year vets

$765,000 - for players with 10 years or more

 

Extended Years:  The 2004-2006 League Years will be Capped Years, and the 2007 League Year will be an Uncapped Year. Existing signing bonus proration rules will continue to apply with maximum proration as follows:

2005 NFL Salary Cap: $85.5 million

Restricted Free Agent - Any veteran player with 3 or more accrued seasons, but less than 5 accrued seasons (or less than 4 accrued seasons in any capped year), shall, at the expiration of his last player contract during such period, become a restricted free agent. Any such player shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a player contract with any club, and any club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a player contract with any such player, subject to the restrictions set forth in this article.

Un-Restricted Free Agent - Any player with 5 or more accrued seasons, or with 4 or more accrued seasons in any capped year, shall, at the expiration of his player contract, become an unrestricted free agent. Such player shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a player contract with any club, and any club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a player contract with such player, without penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, draft choice compensation between clubs or first refusal rights of any kind, subject to the signing period set forth below.

Franchise Player Designations:  Clubs shall be permitted to designate one of its players who would otherwise be an unrestricted free agent as a franchise player each season during the term of this agreement. The player so designated may be one who would otherwise be a restricted free agent. Any club that designates a franchise player shall be the only club with which such franchise player may negotiate or sign a player contract, during the period the player is so designated, notwithstanding the number of his accrued seasons. Any such designation must be made between February 1 and February 15 of each league year or during such other period as may be agreed on by the management council and the NFLPA, with the period ending at 4:00 p.m. ET. A one year NFL player contract for the average of the five largest prior year salaries for players at the position at which the franchise player played the most games during the prior league year, or 120% of his prior year salary, whichever is greater; if the club extends the tender, the player shall be permitted to negotiate a player contract with any club, except that draft choice compensation of two first round draft selections shall be made with respect to such player in the event he signs with the new club, and the signing period for such player shall be determined.
