Staley to decide tonight

Duce Staley had been in contact with the Steelers "in the wee hours" Monday night and left for a visit with the Detroit Lions. But he's expected to sign a new contract tonight and the Steelers are one of three finalists.

According to Staley's agent, the Steelers are more than just finalists. They are the leader at the turn.

"The Steelers are in the lead because he rooted for Pittsburgh as a kid," said Leigh Steinberg, who also said the Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, Staley's former team, are finalists

Staley is expected to command a signing bonus in excess of $3 million.

Duce Staley, 29, rushed for only 463 yards on 96 carries for the Philadelphia Eagles last season after a preseason holdout forced him into a three-man rotation with Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter.
