Roethlisberger, Steelers agree on deal

LATROBE - Rookie quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was expected to be here at the Steelers' training camp at St. Vincent College after agreeing to a 6-year contract with the team Tuesday morning.

While full details are not yet available on the deal, Roethlisberger, the 11th pick in this year's draft, was expected to receive a signing bonus of around $8 million.

The team was anxious to get their future franchise quarterback into camp after he had missed the first three practices of training camp.

"One thing you can't replace are those practices," said head coach Bill Cowher. "You're working on such a limited basis. You come in now 15 days before the first game and we have that in mind. Every one of these practices is important, especially for young players."

One player happy to have Roethlisberger in camp will be quarterback Charlie Batch.

"With only three quarterbacks in camp, it really taxes your arm," Batch said. "You're throwing an addition 50 to 75 passes in practice. They were really monitoring that with us."
