Maddox: Well, I'm excited, I think everybody's excited about getting to work and getting back out on the field. We're here to get ready for Oakland in week one, and I think everybody's looking forward to it and everybody's working hard.
GVB: Increased emphasis on trying to get the running game back to Steelers-style football. Jeff Hartings and I were talking the other day, and he said you've got to be more effective on first down.
Maddox: Well, we do. I think that we've got to make some first downs on first and second down, and have some good, big runs and start moving the ball down the field. It's tough in this league to move it three yards at a time, down the field eighty yards and score a touchdown, so you've got to throw some runs in there for ten, eleven yards, you've got to throw some screens in there, and you know, just get some plays in there where we're moving the ball on first and second down.
GVB: The offensive line was pretty banged up last year; that hampered things. You've got to keep those guys healthy.
Maddox: You can just see it in camp already, with Kendall back and feeling good, and knowing how to keep his diabetes under control and all of that, so he feels great, Marvel feels great, and those five are working together really good, so it really helps to have them in there healthy.
GVB: What about the window of opportunity for this team? It's a year older, but do you still see a window there?
Maddox: Oh yeah, there's a huge window there. I think they've done a good job of having a lot of young players, but having some veteran players as well. We've got a good mix-everybody really enjoys playing together and has fun in the locker room, and we're excited about this season.
GVB: Tommy, thanks a lot.
Maddox: Thank you.
